Training

14 miles over the Malvern Hills, from the North Hill car park to Gullet Quarry and back again. I thought I'd get my Long run in before the weekend, as we do the family Roast thing on a Sunday and I don't like to miss it.

The weather behaved itself, though I could have done without the southerly cross wind at the top of the Herefordshire Beacon.

  1. That looks a challenge to run up, Si. What's that in the tin foil?

  2. That's a peanut butter and honey bagel, chief - can't recommend the combination though, not while running.

As for the picture above, there is a steep path to the left (east flank) and a nice woodland path that cuts a northerly aspect up to the top of Swinyard Hill which can't be seen in the picture.

There is no running on the face there, or climbing either, and no swimming in the pool that you can maybe make out above the bagel. That is a real shame as it used to be a summer honey pot for locals on a weekend.

  3. Excellent bagelry - will have to try that. Pity about the pool - would have made for an ideal running/wild swimming combo!

  4. For some proper bagel alchemy, you could add some coleslaw (good with PB at any rate)...

  6. Peanut butter and coleslaw - I'll leave out the honey if I try it.

Will all that filling stay in the bagel though, as they have a tendency to extrude their contents under the slightest pressure, such as the downward pressure of a less than utility sharp kitchen knife.

  7. I would be worried about excessive central extrusion but with the right filling this would be a risk worth taking

  8. Having just eaten a peanut butter bagel with coleslaw I can testify to the taste sensation that it is - I admit I was skeptical but now I am a convert. Thanks for the culinary tip MattR!
